I spent Chrismas day in the Zocalo (main square) of Mexico City a couple of years back, and there are warm air vents in the square (which I guess are vents for the metro). There were a bunch of little boys with those little plastic toy soldiers with the parachute attached, (possibly fresh from their christmas stocking) and they would release the parachutes over the vents, so the little toys would go sailing up into the air super high. They would watch them enthralled for a couple of seconds, and then go darting through the crowd to catch them as they slowly floated down.

Morgan: "Smella" was started in primary school. BY A TEACHER.

Jayce: I'm thinkin' Norma Jean may have been pantsed by a subway grate, but either way, the updraft effect is magic.

Marilyn Monroe's iconic grate scene just lost its last flitter of allure.

My first day in New York marked the first time I was asked if I wanted "to get high" and shortly after, if I was looking for "a good time". All within two blocks of my hotel. Super convenient.

And thus you earn your nickname, Smella.

When I was little, a family friend told me that the sewer grates in New York steamed because the Ninja Turtles were cooking pizza. Best lie I've ever been told.
