About Ella Morton

Ella MortonElla Morton is a writer, producer, on-camera host and actor with an inquisitive spirit and a penchant for absurdity. She grew up in Sydney, Australia, spending her childhood reading random pages of encyclopedias and writing fanciful stories featuring highly implausible conclusions.

Ella spent a year at law school before realising that she didn’t want to be a lawyer — she just wanted to play one on TV. In January 2009 she moved to New York, and has since studied acting at Stella Adler and improv at The People’s Improv Theater; written and hosted an eight-part online comedy series called The Elegant Guide and written, produced and acted in short films such as The Only Living Boy in New York.

Ella now hosts and produces Rocketboom NYC, a three- to five-minute weekly web show that offers a lively perspective on the events, people and places of New York. So far she has visited the United Nations, chatted with Cookie Monster and Elmo on the set of Sesame Street, interviewed celebs like Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen and Atom Egoyan, and learned how to fight honourably with a samurai sword.

Ella is also writing The URDB Book of World Records, which will be published by Workman in October 2011. She holds two URDB records: Longest Time Spent Hula Hooping On One Leg and Most Pieces of Chalk Thrown at a Person Dressed as a Taco While Singing Space Oddity.

Prior to her career in the USA, Ella wrote and hosted online video for CNET in Sydney. Her man-on-the-street interviews, comedy skits about Steve Jobs and frequent usage of unrelated props in product reviews garnered praise from many and bemused head shaking from others.
