About
Hey there. I’m Ella Morton. I grew up in Sydney, where I became tech-focused and internet-addicted enough to forge a career as a writer/presenter at CNET Australia. Such was my tech cred that I co-hosted a weekly radio show about gadgets and appeared as a Geek Illustrated pin-up.
However, alongside this penchant for technology lurked a fervent desire to dress up, have adventures, write embellished comedic anecdotes and make silly videos. So in January 2009 I left my job, jettisoned my possessions and moved from sun-dappled Sydney to snowbound New York. The mission behind this reckless scheme: to reunite with my Gotham-dwelling family — who left Sydney in 2001 — and pursue my big fat passions of writing, performing and stirring up urban mischief.
I now host Rocketboom NYC as well as URDB’s The World Record Show. I also contribute to Burlesque Magazine, and write and host a rather silly series of web videos called The Elegant Guide. Oh, and sometimes I make short films with friends. Like this one.
Sprinkle of Ginger is where I write and post videos about some of the struggles, triumphs and oddities that inevitably come with reducing one’s life to a single battered suitcase. If you are a creative type prone to procrastination, fear of failure and timidness, I invite you to read along so that we might sucker-punch our inner critics together. My entries will also reflect what it’s like to live in a city that’s been custom-built to over-stimulate people to the point of insanity. Please, join my online self as I amble along this brightly lit path towards the nuthouse.
